“…Our home was very religious; we rented a flat in a Jewish neighborhood, close to the two synagogues. I was only 4 years old, and attended a kindergarten close by. My sisters, who were 2 and 4 years older than I was, went to grade school. In no time, we learned to speak Dutch, and forgot our German.”
